Don’t put your summer pieces up just yet. Your favorite slip or smock dress can still shine for the fall. This will definitely come in handy for ladies who live in the south. If you’re a southern girl like me, you already know the weather is indecisive. It’s cold one week and it’s hot the next. So, having pieces in your wardrobe that can easily transition from week to week and season to season , is vital.
Figuring out how to maneuver through the moody weather and doing so in style can be a conundrum. But your favorite home girl is here to help! I have six tips to help you take your summer clothes to fall. Plus, I have a video to show you how to style your pieces to give you all the fall vibes.
Switch Shoes
Ditch your sandals and slides for boots and loafers. Booties, boots, and loafers are style staples and the perfect piece to take your summer look to a fall fashion favorite.
Add Accessories
Fedoras are a fall must-have. Add a fedora or a wide brim hat to your look for an instant season change. If fedoras aren’t your jam, try a beret, which is also on trend for the season This is the time of the year where you can start incorporating different textures and prints. Consider a leather headband to one of your transitional looks for a fall feel.
Layer Like Nobody’s Business
I’m the kind of girl that believes throwing on a Moto jacket or a blazer will solve everything. These pieces serve both style and function. On a fall day you might need a jacket because its cool outside. A structured or oversized blazer is a great option.

Sophisticated Sleeves
The summer months are all about sleeveless dresses, but when the temperatures drop the dresses can still work by adding a long sleeve blouse underneath.
This is one of my favorite tips and the one I utilize possibly the most. It’s so easy to just add a long sleeve top underneath your sleeveless dress and make that dress serve as jumper.
Try A Turtleneck
I’m also the queen of the turtleneck, black turtlenecks in particular. By simply adding a black turtleneck or even a printed one to a pair of shorts , a skirt , or sleeveless dress we allow you to seamlessly transition from summer to fall.
A turtleneck is chic, classic, and will always have a space in my closet. But I’ve taken my turtleneck obsession a bit further. I’ve developed a deep love for the knit sleeveless turtleneck. Think of the sleeveless turtleneck as an additional piece for layering looks.
I work early mornings and it’s typically very cool. So, the sleeveless knit turtleneck works. I pair it with a blazer and I’m warm throughout the brisk morning. By noon, the sun is beaming and it’s warm. It gives me the perfect reason to ditch the sweater and show off the sleeveless component of the look.
Make Your Clothes Work for You
Turn your summer dress into a tunic. Throw on a pair of jeans with your favorite summer shirt dress and boom, your summer staple is getting its shine in a whole new season.
