Halloween Style: Dress Up As Your Favorite 90’s Girl Group

After watching the TLC biopic, ” Crazy Sexy Cool” on Monday night, a light bulb went off in my head . I finally figured out a Halloween costume. I can grab my girls and we can go as a 90’s R&B girl group. I’m a 80’s baby, but I grew up in the 90’s, so I’m very familiar with the music groups of that time. I figured everyone would go as TLC, especially since their movie aired this week, so I started drifting down memory lane to think of other girls groups. Check out who I’m considering and how to achieve their looks for an inexpensive Halloween costume.

Destiny’s Child

Who can forget the original members of Destiny’s Child?  I remember seeing these girls perform at a city -wide lock in when I was in 8th grade. The next week I was watching their “No, No, No” video on MTV. Cool , right? Grab your girls and go as the original Destiny’s Child. That’s Beyoncé, Kelly, LaTavia, and LeToya.

*Singing* “Don’t walk away boy, my love won’t hurt you. Don’t walk away boy, I’ll be right there for you.” That was my jam back in the day. It’s a shame these ladies only created two studio albums. Try a cute crop top or bustier with a pair of jeans and recreate Jade’s signature style.

I still listen to SWV’s “Anything” from the “Above the Rim” soundtrack, but it’s “Weak ” that takes me back. These Sisters with Voices can really blow.  Before the ladies went ultra glam, they rocked the tomboy style. The ladies sported baggy pants, baseball jerseys, beanies, and baseball caps. With designers embracing the sporty chic look, it should be no problem finding pieces to recreate SWV’s look.

Even though I was singing “Just Kickin’ It” in elementary school, it’s still one of my favorite songs from the Atlanta based group. But it was their ” Off the Hook ” album that made me a lifetime fan. The key to nailing their look for Halloween is incorporating leather into your look. As you can see the ladies didn’t shy away from the leather looks.

TLC loved baggy pants and crop tops. They also rocked 90’s fashion staples like denim overalls, cross colors, and Doc Marten boots. They made baggy clothes sexy. Try their sexy, cool look for Halloween.

Grab , these pieces below to help you recreate the looks from your favorite 90’s girl groups.

Sweeties, which girl group will you go as for Halloween. I’m torn between Destiny’s Child and TLC. I only have a few gal pals down here so it maybe TLC.
