Sweeties,
Friday is finally here and I’m so glad this work week is ending. From covering heartbreak and grief to celebrating my friends career move, this week has truly been an emotional roller coaster. I’ve experienced a share of both ups and downs that helped me a appreciate a lot about life. I’ve laughed, smiled , and felt sadness. It’s hard trying to juggle all of the emotions. In these last five days, I’ve recognized that life is short, the importance of having compassion for others, celebrating the success of other, and how exploring new opportunities can be so scary.
Life is Short
I’ve heard this said a thousand times, but it’s true. Life is short, so live your best life. This week I covered the death of a 17 year old high school student who was set to graduate. That was heartbreaking. It was also a reminder that we can’t take life for granted.
Have Compassion for Others
You never know what someone is dealing with. You never know someone’s story. Before you get sassy or go off on the next person, take a deep breath and apply compassion. I had to take my own advice this week. I was standing in line at the post office for about 30 minutes and I only had to drop off a package that had a prepaid mailing sticker ( I needed the receipt). There was only one teller working and I was beyond frustrated. I gave the clerk so much attitude because of my frustration. I didn’t think about how she was handling the stress of being the only associate available to assist the growing line of people. I could have applied compassion in that moment. My smile and positive attitude could have made a world of difference.
Celebrate Others
I’ve always believed in celebrating other people’s success. From engagements and weddings to career advancements, I’m the one on the sideline rooting for you. I believe there is room in this world for everyone to win. Plus, I believe that if God blessed you, he will do the same for me. This week I celebrated my favorite work / desk mate’s promotion. He is starting a job as a capital reporter covering all things politics. I am beyond happy that God created that opportunity for him. I’ve been encouraging him through this journey and I probably cheered the loudest when he shared the good news!
This week I also celebrated the awesome and truly dynamic women around the world, who are literally changing the world on #InternationalWomensDay. I will always and forever celebrate other women. I will also help other young women on the way. Another woman shared her wisdom and guidance with me. It’s only fitting I do the same.
Explore Opportunities
So this has been kind of fun, slightly interesting, and hella scary. I’ve started talking on the phone to an old friend. At this time all I can say is,”I’m exploring the opportunity.”
Life is the best teacher. Each experience this week has provided me with another lesson that will only make me better. Here’s to a very low key weekend.
