FRIDAY FLY PHILOSOPHY: KENNETH JOHNSON

He’s an entrepreneur with an eye for fashion.  This Birmingham, AL native  says he’s a visual person who’s in love with graphic art and design.  Kenneth Johnson’s love for visual arts coupled with his distinct taste makes him our Friday Fly Philosophy feature.  Ooh La La got the chance to find out more about his fashion perspective and found out how Kenneth comes up with these style worthy looks.

Ooh La La: What’s your Fly Philosophy?

I would say my fly philosophy is subtle by eye-catching. When it comes to being fly I don’t overdo it, but I do enough to make people do a double-take when they see me. Flyness consists of three major components and an optional fourth and fifth component. The 3 major components are:  shoes, bottoms, tops, with an option of headwear and accessories. To consider yourself fly, the three major components must exist simultaneously. You’re not fly if you only have some fresh kicks but no bottoms or tops to match. Everyone who knows me can vouch that every time they see me, I embody these major components.

Ooh La La: Can you give is a brief Background about yourself?

I was  born in New York (the base camp of FLY) and raised in Birmingham, AL. Even though I moved to Birmingham, AL at the early age of four, I think the NY style of fashion is rooted in me. I have an impeccable love for sports, fashion, technology and visual arts(graphic design & web design). I’m a 2006 graduate of Tuskegee University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science.  As a kid my dream job was to either play in the NFL/NBA or to develop sports video games. I’ve always been a visual person; I like to control how things look. I think that’s the main reason why I have a love for fashion.

Ooh La La: Favorite places to shop and favorite designers?

I don’t do much shopping in stores, I prefer online shopping. I don’t like the fact of going into the store buying  an outfit, and later that night I spot the same outfit on another person. My favorite websites are: karmaloop.com, thefreshnes.com, jackthreads.com, adaptclothing.com, sneakerhead.com, and craniumfitteds.com.

My favorite designers/brands are: 10 deep, Levi’s Black Label, Nike, Jordan Brand, Rocksmith, T.I.T.S., Diamond Collection, Adapt, IMKING, Fully Laced, Capital Brand, and Tru Religion.

Ooh La La: What are the top three items in your closet you can’t live without?

1.       Jordans/Nike Dunks
2.       Levi’s Black Label
3.       My crown aka My Cap

Ooh La La: Any tips for guys who have trouble in the fashion department?

My advice is to just be comfortable with YOU and YOUR POCKET. Don’t go broke trying to look like something that you’re not, because it will definitely show and it’s not a good look. But if you’re admiring my style, I would suggest that you stay away from the store and explore shopping online.

It’s safe to say Kenneth isn’t afraid to play with colors. I like to see a wardrobe that’s not boggled down with black’s, blue’s, and grey’s. I really love the red and cream varsity jacket.  The leather snapback took that look to the next level.
