It was only a matter of time before, Lupita Nyong’o landed a major beauty deal. The Oscar Award winning actress and Hollywood “It” girl is the new face of Lancôme. The beauty brand broke the news Friday morning , adding that the Kenyan beauty will began appearing in ads in September.
Lupita’s new role makes her the first black ambassador for the brand. The “12 Years a Slave” star will join the likes of Julia Roberts, Penélope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Lily Collins as celebrity ambassadors for the brand.
In a statement Friday, Nyong’o said she was proud to represent Lancome.
She added, “What appealed to me about Lancôme is that they’re not dictating what beauty is. What they do supports something that already is — and that was appealing to me, too. It’s what drew me to them. Hopefully it’s a symbiotic relationship — that I benefit from being associated with them, and they benefit from being associated with me, as well. And for the consumer at large, I think Lancôme has a range of products for every woman, and I think having me will expand people’s understanding of, hopefully, what Lancôme stands for, who Lancôme is for.”

Kudos to Lamcome for taking the first step in making dark chocolate the new flavor. Hope it’s the beginning of a new era in advertising. Lupita is sure to be an icon for any women of color. I’ve grown so tired of seeing high yellow Beyoncé types in hair care and make-up. These women are not representative of most of us.
