Step outside for one second and you’ll know summer has officially started. The temperatures border unbearable. So wearing pants even jeans during the day seems out of the question. I’m leaning more towards dresses and skirts to get me through the summer. I’m trying different styles of both dresses and skirts. First up is the pleated skirt and let me be honest, wearing a pleated skirt can be a bit intimidating.
Let’s face it, pleats can be tough to pull off. You have to find which style of pleats are flattering to your figure and height.
Here are few tips:
If you’re curvy with the hips everyone wants, look for subtle pleats. Think softer pleats to flatter your figure and lets your natural curves shine.
If you’re petite try box pleated mini skirts to elongate your legs. If you’re tall, try a maxi pleated skirt.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t fall in love with a pleated skirt instantly. It wasn’t until I determined which skirt looked best on me and how to style it.
For me since the pleats are full and dramatic, I like to keep my top fitted. Think tank tops, bodysuit, and cute camisoles.
If you want to go edgy, try a solid colored pleated skirt and a statement top. I’ve tried both. I’ve done edgy and simple chic. This time I went with the latter for a very easy breezy look that was still on trend.
I paired my pretty pastel pink floral midi pleated skirt from H&M with a white bodysuit from forever 21. I added my favorite Missguided pearl embellished heels with the look to give it a dressier vibe.
To finish the look I decided on a pop of color with my new Sasee Chic ‘Pearlie’ Tassel earrings. I love the yellow tassels and the crystal embellishments. Plus, yellow is the color for the summer.
