Bright colors, brilliant jewels, and high quality textiles, are no stranger to this Detroit native’s wardrobe. Jade exudes both flamboyance and extravagance justifying them as two major determinants to her style.  Jade says “When I get dressed I dress to be seen, PERIOD”.  She later says “I keep myself standing out in the crowd on a consistency with my DOPE ATTIRE because this is what I do”, and for that reason Ooh La La chose her as our Friday Fly Philosophy feature.

Jade describes her Fly Philosophy as beyond what her eye can see. When she go shopping she naturally pick items seen in magazines, or ones that haven’t been seen at all for that matter. She doesn’t discriminate in designers or the price region when it comes to purchasing a hot item. This show-stopper is also a budget-buster.  She says “I also love the cheap stores as I prefer to call them as well.” Jade doesn’t mind sharing the prices for a dope cop especially if it was a steal. She even give numerous reviews on items she purchased on-line.

Studying Fashion Merchandising at The Art Institute of Michigan, Jade plans to land her visions as Visual Merchandiser for stores such as Nordstroms, Saks, Neiman Marcus or Louis Vuitton.  Besides being a full-time employee and a part-time student, Jade is also “Mommy” to her two year old daughter and fashion protege Parisa.  Jades says “Parisa who is just as fly as I at 2 rocks the latest like Mommy”.  Those brands are Burberry, Juicy Couture, American Apparel, True Religion, Frye and David Yurman just to name a few.

Taking on the action as religious on-line shopper, Jade’s web browser may contain sites such as Net-a-Porter, Shopbop & Asos. At any given time you may spot Jade tearing up her favorite department stores/boutiques- 110 Couture in Birmingham, MI, Nordstroms, or Lost & Found.

Jade fashion pet-peeve is to see clothing that doesn’t fit. She says ” Style, it is what it is, it’s yours but when you have to CRAM yourself into it, it’s a fashion NO NO!  Jade leaves us with a quote of her own “Dre$$ FLY or DIE trying”.  Well from one fashion connoisseur to the next Ooh La La tips our hat to you.  To see just how fly Jade is Continue Reading »

IS DETROIT THE NEXT FASHION POWERHOUSE?

Friday, October 15, 2010 · 1 Comment

Detroit has style that’s no secret, but will it become a fashion powerhouse?  With the third major fashion event this year well on it’s way, the city is heading in the right direction. That’s a great move for the city, but are Detroiters ready to switch gears and go from the automotive action to a fashion haven? Absolutely!  Detroit is a city that breeds innovative and fashion forward individuals. In this city you have to dress nice, no exceptions! So it’s only befitting that Joe Faris, former Project Runway contestant and Michigan native created Fashion In Detroit, the next major Fashion event scheduled in the city.

Fashion In Detroit was created to showcase the city as well as provide an outlet for talented designers living here. FID (Fashion In Detroit) is a bi-annual two day fashion extravaganza and in exactly one week you will play witness to its second annual premiere fashion show.

On October 22nd and 23rd Detroit will transform from the Motor city to the Fashion City, with FID as the catalyst for the change. The gritty back drop will vanish and glitz, glamour, and ostentatious flair will emerge.  The event will be held at the ubberly posh Motor City Casino. The two day event will include 12 runways shows from local and national designers. There’s also two scheduled trunk shows, one on each day. This will give you a chance to meet and greet some of your favorite designers and celebrities.

In addition to all of the Haute Couture action that will be running rapid in the Motor City Casino, there’s also luxury giveaways! FID will conclude with an Afterglow party that evening from 8PM to 2AM!  This is surely an event you don’t want to miss. In addition to being the place to be next weekend, FID will help put Detroit one step closer to becoming a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry!

“Be Glam, Be Fab, Be You” is Mia Ray’s motto and that’s exactly what this Detroit, MI native is living by. Mia Ray has what we call an authentic style. She’s not imitating her favorite celebrities, but instead creating her own lane. For that reason Ooh La La Blog chose Mia Ray as our Friday Fly Philosophy.  Her style is very versatile. You can catch her on any given day with a mini dress, blazer, and 5-inch platform pumps or Boyfriend jeans and Chuck Taylor’s. This fashionista is also a budgetnista, shopping at places like Forever 21, H&M, and the Salvation Army. She admits she’s not into designer labels. She says ” I love what I know and what I can afford.” If she had to pick one designer though, it would be Rachel Roy.  She says her pieces are edgy, classy, and timeless. When Mia Ray has down time from being a mother to her son Munchie, she’s playing editor-n-chief to her own fashion blog, “Confessions Of A Glamaholic.”  She says she’s doing everything she can to break into the fashion industry. From one fashion blogger to another, keep  your grind and gear up! Ooh La La Blog salutes you.
