Monday night stars and fashion big wigs descended on New York City for the annual Met Gala. It’s widely considered fashion’s most anticipated event of the year. The who’s who of fashion, entertainment, and art gather at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute to celebrate the opening of the institute’s annual fashion exhibit. This year’s exhibit is “China: Through the Looking Glass,”

Guests were encouraged to think about how Chinese culture has influenced American and European fashion and apply it to their fashion choices. Well, things slightly went left. Some looks skirted around the racially insensitive line. Others got it right, while others skipped out on the theme altogether.

Here are my top five looks of the night. Creativity was a key factor. In other words I favored looks that were over the top.

I know I said top five, but there was a clear tie for the number one spot. Fan Bingbing and Rihanna embodied this year’s theme.
